This is the last weekend…Boo-Hoo!

We had such a great time last weekend. Friday night Ron got called out to work while we were out by the fire.  He was gone a couple of hours.  I got the dogs all tucked away and helped the Princess get her bed made. Then I sat by the fire.

Ron returned around midnight or so and we hung by the fire for a while more.  I slept like a baby that night, and didn’t awaken until around 9:15 a.m. Saturday!

While we were in the rec hall having coffee and donuts Saturday morning, my nephew and his son came to visit.  My nephew FINALLY remembered his sons bike.  We taught him to ride his two – wheeler with training wheels – which were totally bent so he was really riding on two wheels.

That night The Princess was hanging with friends while we hung by the fire.  Went to bed a LITTLE earlier, but I still slept until around 8:30!  I love it!

Sunday was such a great day- it was warm but not at all hot.  It was actually kind of chilly at our campsite- we are very shaded.  When you walk into what I call  “The Other World“  a.k.a.  “Sunny areas of the campground”,  there is a definate climate change!

Great for those H-O-T summer days!

Ron got another call for work and had to leave.  The princess was off with friends.  I told Ron to call me when he was done.  If the Princess was happy here, I was staying later.

When Ron called me a few couple of hours later, I was just starting lunch. He decided to come back up. We ended up staying until around 7 p.m.

There were no special events this weekend, which was ok.  We still had a super-relaxing time…at least I did!

This weekend is the last official weekend at camp. We can go up anytime, but there probably won’t be power or water.

No thanks!

Until next time….have a great weekend.  Who has Monday off?

Thanksgiving in September

Last weekend at camp we had Thanksgiving dinner with all of the campers in the rec hall. Princess Der helped them set up and called the table numbers for the people to go up and get their food.

Sunday morning Ron got a road call so I was left to close up camp and haul everything home.  Since he had to stop home for tools and such before his call, I had Ron take Rocky (hugo dogo) home with him. I kept Cosmo (mini dogo)  with me.

Somehow hauling in the cooler or whatever, I pulled a muscle in my leg. Then later that night,  I was school supply shopping AGAIN.

I went to go by the Princess, tripped on her foot and turned the same leg, killing my knee.

Crap- wish I was 18 again. I am in spirit, but body????

Anyway it’s feeling a lot better now.

But I think it traveled up- now I have a headache!

This weekend is supposed to be COLD!

We’ve never used the furnace- we’re almost a little afraid to try. A few weeks ago we lit the stove for about 1/2 hour to take the chill off.

There is no special activity this weekend at camp. Friday night friends of ours may come up and hang around the campfire for a while.

Then the next day there is a pumpkin-fest in a neighboring town. We’ll have to see if Little Man is around. Maybe we’ll go.

Next weekend is the official “last weekend” of camp. Sort of official- I guess you can come anytime IF you can get in, and realize there will be no water, electric OR bathrooms.

Not sure I’ll go for that!

Until later…Bye!

Little Man gets his camping groove on

Since we took Little Man (the grandson) to camp a few weeks ago, he has been begging to go back.

Grandpa got called out Saturday to fix a big rig and stopped home afterward for firewood.  And brought the Little Man back. Of course we had discussed this “surprise” with each other the night before.

I guess when grandpa asked if he wanted to go, he was super excited. Here he is helping grandpa with firewood.

helping-grandpa-2 Saturday afternoon we walked up to the firebarn to see what time the lawnmower and go-kart races started.

They had a log cutting contest going on- Little Man was quite impressed. As we stood there , several trucks went by with go-karts. Little Man got so excited when he saw them being unloaded.

After the log cutting, we had almost 2 hours before the races. We told Little Man we had to walk back to camp to get our lawn chairs. Little Man screamed so loud he was shaking!

He did. not. want. to. leave! Thank goodness for us, we saw Princess Der at her friends when we were on the way back, so he stayed with them and seemed happy.

He is soooo cute on the one hand, and such a brat (sorry!) on the other!

little-man-and-grandpa-at-races Later that night, when the little one got tired of the races, we went back to camp. They were having a bon fire.

The next day Little Man helped the owners son in law clean up from that.

The kid does like to help. And he REALLY loves camp!

He loves the campfire, taking walks and racing down the little dirt road behind our camper- there is quite a hill there.  Despite falling several times, he’s ready to head back to camp A.S.A.P.

Acorns keep falling on my camper…

LOL- we have lovely chipmunks who love to drop acorns out of the tree’s…ding! Right onto our roof!

Ron and I just lie in bed and laugh, especially since they usually hit our neighbors  roof,  not ours. But we do get bonked now and then. Thank goodness, no ones gotten one on the noggin’ yet.

But in my mind I keep singing- “Acorns keep falling on my roof” to the tune of ….you guessed it:

Raindrops keep falling on my head

We made it to the reunion and had a great time. I was a little put off that 1/2 the roads had no street signs- thank goodness for Mapquest and the fact that they have the number of miles between roads….

The country!

We went to coffee and donuts Saturday morning in the rec hall.  The owners son in law filled us in on the camp’s history. There are three campers still there that started over 15 years ago when they opened!

The Princess went to Back to School Movie Night Saturday night. There were a few kids there, but with school starting and the rainy weather forecast, many campers weren’t around.

It did rain yesterday. We all took the dogs for a walk in the rain, then we went back to the camper where Ron and The Princess played cards while I made some popcorn (ok, so it was lunch time- who cares?).

A while later we packed up to come home as my nephew was going to be stopping over.  He never did! Humph!

I’m going as often as I can- I paid for it, I’m using it!

New office space:

Our fridge wasn’t working,  so we used a cooler for a week or two. Bull- poo on that! So Ron made an emergency trip to Wally-world (Walmart for those who are not “in the know”).

Now a week or so ago, they had small dorm sized fridges, and medium sized fridges. As luck would have it, all they had left was the small ones!

So Ron got it.  It does make for a nice place to set my computer away from the mainstream of things:

new-office-space Of course I have no Internet (THIS YEAR!) but I can listen to training CD’s and DVD’s, do blog posts in a word processing program to be copied and pasted into my blog at a later date.

So it’s all good!

Next week at camp- Chili and Chicken Wing contest!

Sounds yummy!

Until next time….

BTW…

Check out my new cinchcast – the widget with the link is on the right.

It’s too cool for words!

Back to camp- and a reunion!

Mommy's Idea Only-The-Curious

Friday Fragments

We go back to camp as soon as the Princess gets out of school.  She really blew all my camping dreams by going back to public school rather than homeschooling.

I mean, we COULD HAVE been at camp the whole time!

Oh well, as long as she’s happy and learning…..

Check out this hot dog!

hot-dog Cosmo LOVES the fire ring! You can’t see it in the pic, but his head is resting ON the bottom of the fire ring!

If you can’t find puppers, just check around the fire ring!

Or on the end of Rocky’s tail! He loves to bite it and hang on while Rocky drags him around!

Pic from the Halloween parade last weekend- kind of fuzzy….sorry!

halloween-pic

There were probably 50-60 kids! They had a ball getting candy and then later, at the party.

Tomorrow we have a family reunion. It is only for a certain section in the family- all the brothers and sisters of one family and their kids.  We are NOT brothers or sisters- in fact my mom and uncle are cousins of this family, but we are special, so we all got an invite :-)

My Aunt Joan is coming home from Colorado.  She is my moms cousin, but I always called her Aunt. He daughter Tracy is my BBF in the world.  They lived on the road behind us and our backyards met, so we could just climb the fence to see each other.

Tracy went in the army and years ago decided she loved Colorado, so stayed when her time was up.  Her sister moved there a few years later and eventually her mom and step-dad followed.

Tracy and I will get on the phone and talk for hours sometimes. This really gets my kids going….they’ll answer the phone..

“It’s Tracy- talk to you in a few days…”

They are such exaggerators!

Now, the question is, will Tracy sneak back to NY with her mom?  This wouldn’t be the first time they have surprised me……..

I know I shouldn’t get my hopes up, but my hopes are up.

The only problem is that the camp is having a back-to-school movie night. The Princess is really planning on going. They show a newly released movie- it’s a surprise what one.  The kids bring their pillows and blankey and I think they have snacks and such.  So I need to get back for that.

But that doesn’t mean people can’t come see me at camp on Sunday…………..

Have a happy and safe weekend

Labor Day or Halloween?

We had a great weekend! It actually started on Wednesday night for us. We went for the day and decided to spend the night.

Several new campers pulled in on Friday night. Princess brought a friend, and they met tons of kids.  One of the kids across the street, whom I’ll call Mikey (not real name) was so amusing! Mikey is 5 or 6 yrs old.

His grandma is a few trailers down from us, and the whole dang family came up with campers for this holiday weekend. Mikeys family brought in a car trailer Thursday night that had a 4-wheeler and some bikes on it. All of a sudden we hear Mikey’s dad yell, “Mikey get your head back in the truck window. What did I tell you? Stay in that truck!”

We knew Mikey would be a spitfire and he was! He often dropped by to talk. And talk. And talk……

He has an older brother, we’ll call him Kyle. The princess asked Mikey where Kyle was. Mikey said in a cutsie voice, “Why, because Kyle is so cute? He is SO cute! ”

I asked if that was what all the girls said.

He said, “No, he makes the girls barf”. Then he laughs at himself. He continues- “Then they kiss him.”  He laughs again.

He was so expressive he had us cracking up.  I had to wipe my eyes- the kid had me laughing up so hard I was crying.

On Saturday the campgrounds had “Halloween” for the kids. They started with a fall craft, followed by a parade where the kids went door to door around the camp getting candy. Our grandson, “Little Man” was here. He dressed as a cow and was sooo cute. All the kids were so cute.  I tried to get pictures, but they didn’t really turn out.

I never get kids at my house on Halloween- too countrified. Here I had tons of kids stopping by for candy, but as luck would have it, I ended up being the one to take Little Man around so I missed them. Of course I saw all of the kids when we were out trick-or-treating as we all went as a group.

Sunday was bowling for food, then a hay ride later in the day. It rained until 2-2:30 p.m. but the ride was on later in the day.

The Princesses friend had to go home that day as her mom needed a babysitter for the younger sister. But there were so many kids at camp, The princess barely noticed that her friend wasn’t there.

We finally packed our bags yesterday to come home.

We all  love camping. I am already packing to go back as soon as school is over Friday. I may run up one day this week to do some work on the lot.

We also acquired a used refrigerator to put outside on our non-existing deck.  Guess we better get working on that.

Next week at camp is back to school movie night at the  rec hall. The kids see a newly released movie. Cool, huh?

The week after is a Chili and Chicken Wing contest. I’m still debating if I should enter. My Dad was a fireman in our town and our family ran the clam shed at the field days for like 15 years- I was the Chicken Wing lady. Everyone loved my wings. But it’s been a while…..

Until next time……keep on camping.

Long weekend

Well we went camp to Wednesday, thinking we’ll go home after supper, then come back Thursday night or Friday. It was hot as a dickens out and the kids wanted to go swimming.

Camp is only 20 minutes or so away, about as far away as the closest beach. So why not? They have a pool, we have the camper if needed, and the lot and everything is paid for, so no parking or visitor fees.

Well, we decided to stay the night. So we’ve been there since. We are home at the moment because my daughter had a doctors appointment and we had to grab a few things.

Little Man, our grandson came with us. He absolutely loved it!

He calls camp, “cump”

He says, “I Wanna go to cuhmp!”

All he wanted to do is swim and “go for walk”.

His Dad will bring him back up tomorrow as the campgrounds are hosting a “Halloween” night.

They will paint pumpkins, dress up and parade around the campgrounds, begging for candy. Then there is a party and a bon fire.

Sunday they have a hay ride and something else (brain fade!)

Wednesday night, we got eaten alive by mosquito’s! Not only were they biting, but they were loudly buzzzzing around- how dare them! Little Man has a problem closing the camper door.

The screen was also out of the bedroom wiindow-we had it out to hand tools in and out when Ron was working on the water. We just kept forgetting to put it back in. Last weekend there were no mosquitos. We learned our lesson- we put the screen in yesterday…

….and had a great nights sleep.

Speaking of sleep, I still didn’t get any kind of mattress for the bedroom in the camper. I put our eggshell thingy on top of the futon matteress and our padded mattress cover over that. It still feels kind of hard but believe it or not, both Ron and I feel great after sleeping on it.  And that’s saying  a lot because Ron has a pretty bad back.

Which probably proves the theory that sleeping on a piece of plywood is great for a bad back.

Anyway, have to get all my stuff together and get back to camp…..

Until later…..

Back from camp- week 1

We made it back from camp in one piece! We had a great time. I really hated to leave, but Princess Der had to dog-sit for a neighbor from Sunday until Wednesday. So I plan on heading back Thursday.

I took a few pics. When you enter the campgrounds, you drive over a pond- well actually on the road that goes over the pond….There is a rock wall about 2 ft high on each side of the road. To the right, you can see a fountain in the pond:

camp-fountain-in-pond The pond is not really a place to swim, but the campground has a pool and a beautiful area surrounding it- a table with an umbrella, plenty of lounge chairs with cushions and side tables.

But back to the pond. Just before you cross the pond, there is a pathway that leads into the woods. Several hundred feet into the woods, there is a wooden bridge that crosses the pond and goes over to a small island.

camp-the-wooden-bridge Because dogs need to be chained at your campsite, we took several walks a day. We would often walk to the bridge and go over to the island.

On the other side of the campgrounds there is another path into the woods- that one is pretty long. We walked there several times as well.

The campgrounds is right down the road from the fire department (which my dearly departed dad would approve of!).  The fire department has Lawn Mower races every Saturday night.

Ron has gone to the races once or twice in the past with some friends, at a different location. I had never been.  So Ron and I walked down. The princess stayed at camp with a new friend.

They were so cool! They started out with the kids in their go-karts- some were pretty souped up!

camp-lawnmower-races11 As you can see, this is serious stuff! We stayed for most of the race- we left a little before the end as our legs were killing us. Next time we bring the lawn chairs.

Speaking of next time- they have a BIG race next weekend, so we are going to try to get a bunch of friends together and “party it up” at camp and the races.

Ron had to work for several hours on Saturday. The Princess met a friend when I took her to the pool, so she had someone to hang with for the rest of the weekend.

While Ron was gone, I raked the lot, chopped a bunch of wood for kindling, then buried our electric line. Dave, the maintenance guy offered to bury it, but I’m like , “Oh no, I’ll do that!”

Like I’ve said in the past, we really don’t know how to relax…..

I was attempting to keep the fire going all day. We like to cook meals on it and it keeps mosquitoes away. As I was fighting to keep the thing going (the wood was a little wet…) I couldn’t help but think how houses burn down from a single hot ash dropped from a cigarette, and whole forests can burn down the same way…yet I can barely keep a fire going that has 12 hours worth of coals at the bottom! I did manage to keep it going….

They have a rec hall at the camp, too. Every weekend they do something special for the campers. This past Saturday was Root Beer Float night. We missed it because we were at the races and The Princess and her friend forgot to walk up at the appointed time.

Next weekend is Halloween! The kids dress up, have a parade and a party. We will have to bring Little Man (the grandson) provided we can get a hold of his mom.  She’s playing games with my step-son again- not answering the phone and such…..We haven’t seen the little guy in about 3 weeks! I think it’s time for the stepson to go back to court.

Ron just came home from a road call and said he heard it’s supposed to be in the 90′s this week! I think we may go to camp for a few hours one day this week. It’s only 19 miles from home, so it’s no further than one of the beaches….

Anyway, I must go and get some work done, or I won’t be going to camp this weekend! So far, I can’t get Internet there, although I’ll admit I didn’t try too hard this weekend….

Until next time…..

God works in mysterious ways!

Ok weird stuff going on here- but all for the good! We are supposed to start camping next weekend. We will be seasonal, leaving the trailer at the camp over the winter.

Friday I called the campgrounds where we had reserved a spot to arrange to stop in to pay for the site.

Ron said to be sure there are full hook-ups.

Being me I said, “Of course there are, I told him we had a trailer.”

Just to amuse Ron, I asked the guy.

No hook-up’s!

I’m like ……..WHAT?

He says they have 2 sites left that have hook-ups. We know where he’s talking and weren’t crazy about them…..

He was going to find out if those spots were available on Labor Day- they may have been rented already- and call me back later that day.

I started looking around for other places just in case….

Plus like I said, we weren’t too crazy about those 2 sites.

I don’t know how I missed it the other 1,000 times I was looking for a place online…it was listed on ONE camping site only…

But I found the PERFECT place- they had one spot left, and it’s perfect for us.

Ron has a HUGE service truck- almost as big as the trailer itself! He never leaves home without it :-)

The road we are on loops around, and behind where we are is a plot of land not quite big enough for a campsite. They said we could use that, so including that our lot is almost twice as long as normal. So Ron has his parking spot.

They have a pool, sandbox, swing-set, shuffleboard, horseshoes and a rec hall.  They have coffee hour every Saturday morning with coffee and donuts, and various events on weekends.

The dogs are more than welcome, and they only charge for guests if they spend the night. Which is good, as we have a loyal following that visit often (ha-ha).

Our neighbor on one side is the owners niece. We start talking about where we’re from- her brother-in-law is my mothers mailman! Growing up, I hung out with his brother, Kenny. Kenny was killed on a motorcycle a couple of years ago….My mom was good friends with their mother before their mom passed away….

Small world, huh?

Anyhoo, we are all psyched, the site is paid for, and I am wanting to go now. We have a waterline or two to hook up, the rug to lay down (we’re back to that!) and a door handle to install.

All that can be done there- so….

Maybe we’ll go before Friday!

BTW- the guy at the original place- the one who never told me there were no hook-ups, NEVER called me back….

Oh well!
